State mental evaluations have been ordered to determine if an ex-convict is fit for a death penalty trial in a case stemming from a car-to-car shooting that killed two California women and critically wounded a man near the Las Vegas Strip.
Prosecutors said a Friday order by a Clark County District Court judge means that Omar Jamal Talley's trial is on hold until state psychiatrists determine whether he's faking mental illness or fit for trial.
Talley's lawyer, William Skupa, didn't immediately respond to messages.
Police and prosecutors say an argument in a parking structure at the Miracle Mile Shops at the Planet Hollywood resort preceded the shooting that killed two women and wounded a man early Feb. 19.
The three were visiting from the San Francisco Bay area.
