NORTH LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A man was found dead and a woman shot herself fatally during a barricade situation this morning in North Las Vegas, according to North Las Vegas Police Department.
At around 2 a.m., police officers responded to an apartment complex at the area of the 2600 block of East Cheyenne near Civic Center Drive regarding a suicidal female subject.
Arriving officers located a Hispanic male adult, believed to be in his 50s, deceased from a gunshot wound inside the residence. Along with the deceased male, was an armed female, believed to be 52 years of age, who was believed to be the initial caller. She was standing next to the deceased male victim and refused commands from police.
For safety, due to the male being deceased and the female refusing commands while armed with a firearm, officers backed out of the residence. Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), SWAT and Detectives were called out. The situation was treated as an active barricade. About 8 surrounding apartments were evacuated.
CNT, SWAT and Detectives arrived on scene. While setting up, a gunshot was heard from inside the residence. A robot was sent into the residence and the adult female was found deceased from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
At this time, little is know what lead up to the incident.
Detectives were on scene and working with witnesses to get more information. The evacuation was lifted shortly after and residents were able to return to their homes.
