LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A medium-security inmate has been reported missing from Southern Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.
NDOC initially said Porfirio Duarte-Herrera was determined missing by correctional officers during the 7 a.m. scheduled count on Tuesday, initiating escape procedures at approximately 8 a.m.
A revised press release from NDOC on Tuesday afternoon clarified that the inmate had been "unaccounted for since approximately Friday evening."
This came after a statement from Gov. Steve Sisolak revealing the discrepancy and calling it "unacceptable."
"This kind of security lapse cannot be permitted and those responsible will be held accountable," Sisolak stated.

This morning, my office was informed by the Nevada Department of Corrections that an inmate was reported as missing. My Office later learned that upon further investigation by NDOC the inmate has been missing since early in the weekend. This is unacceptable.
My Office has ordered NDOC to conduct and complete a thorough investigation into this event as quickly as possible. This kind of security lapse cannot be permitted and those responsible will be held accountable.
NDOC continues to work with law enforcement officials in the pursuit of this inmate. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the escaped inmate should immediately call 911.
County records show that Duarte-Herrera arrived at the Nevada Department of Corrections on Feb. 18, 2010.
He is serving a life sentence for murder with the use of a deadly weapon, pertaining to the 2007 bombing at the Luxor Hotel.
Duarte-Herrera is accused of assisting another man, Omar Denvers, in killing Willebaldo Antonio by planting a pipe bomb on a car, which detonated and killed Antonio. Prosecutors at the time argued that the bombing was a "revenge killing," as Antonio was dating Denver's ex-girlfriend.
A retake warrant was issued for Duarte'Herrer's arrest, and police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Duarte-Herrera is described as around 5 feet, 4 inches tall, 135 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair and no reported tattoos.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police told KTNV they are aware of the escapee and that "officers are being vigilant."
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Duarte-Herrera should immediately call 911.
