Lawyer to seek bail for man held in downtown Las Vegas shooting

Posted

A lawyer appointed for a 20-year-old accused of shooting four people early May 29 on a downtown Las Vegas sidewalk says he'll seek a hearing in the case on Thursday.

Defense attorney Roy Nelson was named Wednesday to represent 20-year-old Steven Demond Burks, and said later he'll seek bail ahead of Burks' June 22 preliminary hearing.

Burks was arrested last weekend -- becoming the second man to face attempted murder, battery, conspiracy and weapon charges.

Pierre Terrell Devlin remains jailed on $250,000 bail pending a preliminary hearing June 20.

Authorities say two of the wounded were from Queensland, Australia, and two were from Las Vegas.

Witnesses told police the shooting followed argument on a sidewalk near the Downtown Grand hotel-casino on Ogden Avenue at 3rd Street.
