Las Vegas basketball player arrested after fatal crash out on house arrest

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The local basketball player accused of a deadly DUI is out on house arrest.

Police say Zaon Collins was intoxicated and driving nearly 90 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone when he crashed into another driver.

He's accused of killing 52-year-old Eric Echevarria in the south part of the valley.

Collins is charged with DUI above the legal limit and reckless driving resulting in death.

Court records show the 19-year-old has been cited four previous times while driving since 2017 that includes a citation for speeding at more than 21 mph over the posted speed limit.

He is scheduled to be back in court again Thursday.
