According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), Las Vegas is one of the worst cities in the country for motorcycle thefts.
The city is ranked fourth in the country with 583 thefts in 2017. That's actually an improvement from 2016, in which Las Vegas was ranked third with 818 thefts.
Here's the top ten cities for motorcycle thefts in 2017:
- New York - 980 thefts
- San Diego - 846 thefts
- Los Angeles - 833 thefts
- Las Vegas - 583 thefts
- Miami - 575 thefts
- San Francisco - 568 thefts
- Houston - 424 thefts
- San Antonio - 413 thefts
- Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - 350 thefts
- Philadelphia - 342 thefts
NICB also offered the following stats on the ten most stolen motorcycles by manufacturer in 2017:
- American Honda Motor Co., Inc. - 8,781 thefts
- Yamaha Motor Corporation - 7,298 thefts
- American Suzuki Motor Corporation - 5,530 thefts
- Harley Davidson, Inc. - 5,138 thefts
- Kawasaki Motors Corp., USA - 5,101 thefts
- Taotao Group Co. Ltd - 2,305 thefts
- KTM Sport Motorcycle AG - 722 thefts
- Genuine Cycle - 532 thefts
- Ducati Motor Holding - 520 thefts
- Kymco USA, Inc. - 484
A representative from State Farm offered the following advice to avoid motorcycle theft:
- Never leave your motorcycle while the engine is running
- Take your keys with you - don't hide them
- Park in a well-lighted area whenever possible
- Leave only the ignition key with an attendant when you park in a commercial lot or garage
- Lock your garage and your motorcycle when parking at home
