LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department held a press conference this morning to talk about recent crimes they are seeing in the area.

According to LVMPD's Summerlin Area Command Capt. Fred Haas, there have been 17 carjackings recently in the valley. Most of those carjackings have involved juveniles.
Haas says it appears to be a small number of people involved and 9 of the 17 carjackings involved people suspected of previous carjackings.
Haas says that carjackings are crimes of opportunity. He also said that there’s been a 30% increase in carjacking over last year and 50% of the carjackings this year have involved juveniles. Haas also said there has been an increase in carjackings nationwide.
Additionally, other cars have been broken into.
