LATEST: 13 Action News spoke with Daniel Prichard's father regarding Monday's incident.

"I've had him since he was 9 months old," said dad Marshall Taylor, "he would never try to run a person down with his car."

Taylor said video just released from the officers body-worn camera proves his point.

"That is totally uncalled for," said Taylor, "...to get out of the car and shoot like that, for what?"

Taylor said his son was frightened that guns were being pointed at him and he was trying to get away.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department disagrees, stating Prichard was charging right at police.

The video shows one officer firing 10 shots at Prichard's car as he speeds off.

Prichard is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and multiple traffic infractions.

The 18-year-old's father said he believes the actions of police were not justified.  He hopes the charges against his son will be downgraded.

Taylor tearfully shared his biggest fear.

"He'll get put in prison, get a felony, and  his life be washed away," he said, "him not even have a chance at life."

UPDATE: Police revealed new details about the officer-involved shooting on Monday.

Around 11:16 p.m. patrol officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop after observing an unregistered vehicle near Bonanza Road and Nellis Boulevard. The vehicle sped off before officers could conduct the stop. Officers did not pursue.

LVMPD officers later located the vehicle near Del Amo Drive and Sandhill Road and initiated a traffic stop. While approaching the vehicle, police said the driver attempted to run over an officer. One officer fired multiple times at the vehicle but did not strike the suspect.

The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Daniel Prichard, was taken into custody near Vallejo Avenue and Midas Street.

LVMPD police are still investigating the incident.

The name of the police officer involved in the shooting was released on Thursday morning. The officer has been identified as 33-year-old Scott Hinckley.

He is assigned to LVMPD Community Policing Division, Northeast Area Command. He is currently on routine paid administrative leave while the shooting is being investigated.
