Henderson dog park closes because of vandalism

A popular dog park in Henderson is closed, and the city is blaming vandalism.

A sign is posted on the gate of Aventura Park in Inspirada, saying the dog park is closed indefinitely.

"It's disappointing especially around here, and especially since it's a brand new area," says one dog owner, Sean Magee.

According to the city of Henderson, for the last several weeks, somebody has been stealing the sprinkler nozzles out of the dog park. They said it doesn't look like they've been kicked, or even chewed, since all the nozzles have been screwed off.

"It could be a landscape maintenance company trying to take advantage of the city of Henderson," says Henderson's park superintendent, Doug Guild.

The city says the vandalism has forced them to close down the park.

"What happens is, when they steal the nozzles, the water comes on and it floods the whole area," says Guild. "We've had some damage to our landscaping and also our tennis courts."

The city is worried the damage to the tennis courts could get worse, forcing them to have to replace the courts, which would cost about $15,000.

Park representatives say there's another park about a mile away, called Cappriola, that dog owners can go to.
