Around 4:50 p.m. Jan. 23, police responded to the 9200 block of West Charleston Boulevard, near Rampart Boulevard, to investigate a report of a 10-month-old baby not breathing and a man threatening medical personnel.

The infant was transported to Summerlin Hospital by medical personnel. Medical personnel determined that the victim had sustained various life-threatening injuries that appeared to be the result of a battery. Due to the severity of the injuries, the infant was transferred to University Medical Center.

Around 7 p.m. Jan. 24, the infant succumbed to the injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

Abuse and Neglect detectives determined the father of the infant, later identified as 31-year-old Eric Chu, was suspected in the death.

During the investigation, it was determined Chu had fled the city. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Repeat Offender Program unit obtained information that Chu might be headed to Chicago. On Jan. 26, the US Marshalls located Chu in Chicago and he was arrested in connection with this death.

Chu is currently awaiting extradition to the Clark County Detention Center.

The identity of the deceased victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
