Police: Suspect apprehended after killing man, injuring dog at Charlie Frias Park

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a homicide that occurred Friday afternoon at Charlie Frias Park, near Tropicana Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.

Police officers from the Spring Valley Area Command responded to the scene about 12:30 p.m.

Homicide Lt. Jason Johansson said the crime happened near the tennis courts when a man stabbed another man following a verbal altercation. Both males are believed to be in their 40s or 50s, and police later said they were able to take 50-year-old Rochlon Hamilton into custody.

He said the suspect then stabbed a bystander's dog.

The victim reportedly died from the stab wound. Johansson said the dog is being treated at The Animal Foundation and is expected to survive.
