LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said that a son stabbed his mother to death in an apartment complex in the area of Nellis Boulevard and Vegas Valley Drive.

Around 11:09 a.m. Wednesday, police received a call from a man who claimed that his brother is making threatening statements while holding knives toward his mother. The brother has been identified by police as 34-year-old Pablo Bonilla.

After arriving on the scene, officers immediately made contact with the individuals inside the apartment at the 2900 block of Jupiter Hills. Initial contact revealed Bonilla was holding his mother and brother in a hostage situation, which prompted police to request SWAT and Crisis Negotiators. As they were making contact, police set up containment around the apartment and evacuated people living in neighboring residences.

Prior to the SWAT unit's arrival, Bonilla exited the residence, covered with blood and holding two knives, before surrendering to the police without further incident. Officers then entered the apartment and discovered the suspect’s mother suffering from multiple stab wounds. Medical personnel responded but eventually declared the victim deceased at the scene.

Bonilla is currently in police custody and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for open murder.

Police said the mother is believed to be in her 70s, while the suspect is in his 30s.
