LVMPD Lt. Jason Johansson spoke Friday night about the shooting.
He said officers were directed to a "homeless encampment" with multiple tents. There, multiple witnesses lead police to an area where five people with gunshot wounds were found.
Johansson says responding officers rendered immediate medical aid until all five victims could be transported to UMC.
So far, one man in his 50s died at the hospital. Three men in their 30s are also being treated, two remain in stable condition and one of them is in critical condition. Lastly, one adult-aged teenager is in stable condition at UMC.
The investigation is in the early stages and police say the following is unconfirmed: witnesses told officers a Black male in a hoodie fired the shots then got back into his black sedan and left the scene.
When asked if he belived there was still any ongoing threat to the public, Lt. Johansson said, "I wish i could say i knew for a fact it was an isolated incident."
Police will remain on the scene through the night to continue their investigations.
Road closures are still in effect at the intersection of Honolulu and Charleston. However, police expect the eastbound lanes to reopen soon, while westbound lanes will likely be closed into the morning hours as detectives continue processing the scene.
LVMPD urges anyone with information to reach out to the homicide unit or if they wish to remain anonymous to contact Crime Stoppers.
As of 6:45 p.m., police said at least two of the shooting victims had died from their injuries. The other three victims were said to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Police told Channel 13 they believe all five people were shot by the same person. That person had not been apprehended as of this report.
A traffic camera in the area showed officers shutting down Charleston Boulevard near the intersection with Sandhill Road.
Officials with LVMPD's Homicide Section are expected to provide additional details later this evening.
