62-year-old dies in hit-and-run near Charleston, Eastern

A fatal crash involving a pedestrian occurred near East Charleston Boulevard and Eastern Avenue around 9:29 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say a 62­-year-­old man was crossing Charleston Boulevard when he was hit by a 1999 Chrysler LHS.

The 62-year-ol mand was not in a crosswalk at the time of the crash and the driver of the Chrysler fled the scene. Officers later located the car two miles from the scene of the incident but the driver was no longer in the vehicle.  

Witnesses describe the driver of the of the Chrysler as a thin black man, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a black shirt and camouflage shorts.  

The 62-year-old pedestrian was transported to UMC Trauma where he later died.
