Families witnessed the horrifying scene unfold at approximately 3:30 p.m. near Eastern Avenue and Oakey Boulevard.
"He got stabbed, and he had blood all around his body," said 8-year-old Jayden Pascual. "It scared me."
Pascual's mother said he was walking home from school when he saw the smoke.
"I've never been through all of that stuff in my life," he said.
The vacant home was sometimes occupied by the homeless, according to neighbors. Fire investigators say the house had no utilities.
Police have not made any arrests.
