A tractor-trailer caught fire after hitting a wall and a power box near Audrie Street and Harmon Avenue, sending a plume of smoke over the Las Vegas Strip.

The crash happened around 12:20 p.m. Saturday underneath the monorail tracks. The driver was able to escape the fire without injury. Clark County fire crews were able to extinguish the flames without incident.

The monorail above the crash site shut down momentarily after a train passed over the cloud of smoke. Personnel from the monorail inspected the equipment and tracks. The route opened again around 3:11 p.m.

578 customers lost power near Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard due to the crash, including The Signature Towers. Six people from four separate elevators had to be rescued. The power was restored around 2:30 p.m.

The outage also disrupted Terminal 3 operations at McCarran Airport. Flights were not impacted.
