UNLV football players, staff test positive for coronavirus

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — UNLV Athletics has confirmed that some members of it football team and staff have tested positive for COVID-19.

Although UNLV would not say exactly how many athletes or staff are positive, they told 13 Action News that the test rate has been less than 2.5% over the past 2 weeks.

They also said they have a strict protocol for those that test position, including isolation for 10 days and medical clearance before returning. Contact tracing is also conducted and there is a 14-day quarantine process for those that meet the criteria for exposure.

UNLV is scheduled to open their season on Oct. 24 against San Diego State in California. Their first home game at Allegiant Stadium is on Oct. 31 against University of Nevada, Reno.

According to UNLV's website, they've had a total of 208 positive cases reported as of Oct. 2. 164 of those cases were students, 32 were staff and 12 were faculty. Although the website says that new numbers will be reported every Friday, it does not appear that there was an update on Oct. 9.
