LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Some Las Vegas retailers say they are seeing a spike in sales of safes due to homeowners being concerned about keeping their property and loved ones safe amid the pandemic.

Safes and deadbolt locks for doors are flying off the shelves at Liberty Lock and Security.

“I just ordered 25 safes, and I’ve probably got maybe 10 left,” says Steve Weggeland, store owner.

Weggeland says customers are worried about safety right now.

The clock is ticking across the state as the eviction moratorium expires in just a few days on Sept. 1.

“People really want to hunker down and are concerned about people breaking into their houses,” says Weggeland. “Especially the moms that are home all day with their kids, trying to keep their kids safe.”

Weggeland says there are some things you can do right now around your home to ensure safety.

“Make sure that you have good lighting in the evening, make sure you don’t have blind spots,” says Weggeland. “If you have shrubs in front of your house, try to clean out so you can see if someone’s walking up to your house.”

Nevada Safes says they’ve also seen more safe sales, and a lot of customers have been asking if they also sell firearms, too.
