NEVADA (KTNV) — Nevada has its first confirmed case of the South African COVID-19 variant, according to the state public health lab.
The new strain was detected in a sample collected in Reno and traced back to a traveler from South Africa who became symptomatic after arriving in Nevada.

Drugmaker Pfizer says the South African strain could reduce vaccine protection.
Currently, the CDC says 10 states have seen cases of the South African variant.
