LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Nevada now ranks second when it comes to the spread of COVID-19, at least according to a state health official.

Nevada reportedly has a higher positivity rate than 48 other states.

During a meeting of the COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force on Thursday, the chief state biostatistician said, “Our test positivity rate is extremely high in Nevada right now.”

She also said the figure is “obviously very alarming” and nearly the highest in the U.S.

Nevada currently has more cases per 1,000 than Arizona and California.

Additionally, Morgan pointed out that the daily case rate in Nevada is double that of the summer peak and there is no indication that the state is approaching a plateau.

State health officials added 50 new deaths and 2,193 new COVID-19 cases to the totals on Dec. 10.

Idaho has the highest positivity rate at this time, according to various sources.

Across the nation, 3,124 deaths were reported Wednesday — the highest one-day total since the pandemic began.
