LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The YMCA of Southern Nevada is launching a new Senior Outreach Initiative during the coronavirus pandemic.

The YMCA hopes to be able to help comfort our local senior community and foster a sense of staying connected during this crisis.

In the coming weeks, YMCA staff, members and volunteers will be assigned a senior buddy, from the active YMCA members, to check in with on a frequent basis.

Buddies will call and do a wellness check that will serve as a reminder to the senior that the YMCA is there to emotionally support them during the closure, and will be there for them in the case that any needs arise.

Anyone interested in joining the YMCA Senior Outreach Initiative to help them reach out to seniors at the YMCA can register on their website.

"Just one phone call can help brighten a senior’s day," says the YMCA.
