LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Nevada's temporary ban on evictions is set to expire on Oct. 15.

When it does, a local nonprofit wants to make sure that renters are protected.

They gathered outside the Nevada supreme court asking for the judges to put in place a fair mediation program for tenants and landlords.

Outreach Coordinator at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Patti McGuire, said of people worried about being evicted, "They're scared. People are scared. We have elderly people, a 75-year-old woman, left a voicemail crying because someone was telling her she's going to get evicted cuz she didn't pay her rent. So we're hearing more and stories about being scared and don't know where to turn."

While the statewide eviction moratorium ends on Oct. 15 the CDC has one of its own that lasts until the end of the year.
