LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Gov. Steve Sisolak announced this afternoon a 45-day extension to the state's residential eviction moratorium.
The extension will allow counties more time to distribute rental assistance to landlords on behalf of tenants.
The governor went on to say the extension will also give courts more time to set up a mediation program for renters and landlords, as well as allow DETR more time to process the backlog of UI/PUA claims.
The 45-day extension does not change the tenants' obligations to the pay rent that is due.
The mediation program was passed during the special session and is set to start before the end of Sept.
"We can't keep this moratorium going forever, so we need to launch this program," said Sisolak.
