In a statement to 13 Action News, FSE said it would start fogging twice daily, at 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.. Read the full statement below.

As part of our commitment to the health and safety of our guests, talent and staff, Fremont Street Experience has enhanced our cleaning processes to include fogging, a procedure that thoroughly disinfects hard-to-reach areas as well as surfaces that are frequently contacted. We are fogging the pedestrian mall, FSE parking garage and SlotZilla towers twice a day (6:30AM and 3:30PM) with disinfectants that are highly effective against many communicable diseases, including coronaviruses, and are immediately safe for human contact. The STIHL gas-powered backpack sprayers being used have a spray range of 48 feet high and 43 feet wide allowing for up to 10 hours of protection and an effective treatment to all surfaces when disinfectants are deployed.

We chose to do fogging because it kills 99.9999% of bacteria, fungi and viruses, while traditional cleaning (i.e. wiping the surfaces over with a cloth) is only effective at getting rid of 11% of harmful bacteria and viruses. Wiping down surfaces can actually spread germs, especially when only one cloth is used to clean all surfaces. Fogging kills the germs where they lie and also prevents them from being transferred from one place to another, known as cross contamination, due to its automated process.
