LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Education Support Employees Association says that they were not consulted about what it would mean for support staff if the Clark County School District moves to full-time distance education.
Support staff includes bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers, aides etc.

According to the president of the association, Jan Giles, there is no collective bargaining agreement in place to protect those positions and budget cuts can be made anywhere.
She also said that if students are not in school, principals can decide support positions are no longer needed.

In some cases, they can't refill those positions for a period of two years and in others, they'd have to go through the whole re-hiring process, fingerprinting, background checks, etc. if/when school does return in-person.
The bottom line is that support staff have no idea at this time whether or not they will continue to be employed if CCSD decides not to reopen its school campuses.
