CCSD reports another student suicide amid pandemic, distance learning

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Clark County School District has been dealing with a mental health crisis ever since distance learning began last March.

The district had reported 18 youth suicides through Dec. and the district says another student took their life this month.

In a statement to 13 Action News the district said "CCSD has seen 19 youth suicides since school closures in March 2020, more than double the nine the district had the entire previous year."

  • 6 students died by suicide between March 16 and June 30, 2020
  • 12 students died by suicide between July 1 and Dec. 31, 2020
  • One additional suicide took place in Jan. 2021

13 Action News has been unable at this time to independently verify the number of suicides among CCSD students.
