LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — With Nevadans limiting large gatherings, blood drives have been canceled, and blood donation supplies are dwindling.

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services and local health authorities are reminding the community that donating blood is safe and needed at this time.

Blood donations save lives, and there is no risk of contracting COVID-19 from the blood donation process.

Blood donation centers have measures in place to screen people for illness, and it is vital that healthy people continue to donate blood.

Updated information about blood donations is available from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration on its website.

More information on Nevada’s COVID-19 response can be found at nvhealthresponse.nv.gov.
