Cooler weather on its way to Las Vegas valley

Posted

There are big weather changes coming up -- from the triple digits to the potential 70s all within the next 96 hours.

We have been talking about an approaching cold front for the past several days, and it is now making itself known today in the form of wind.

Wind Advisories are up for Pahrump and Indian Springs until 9 p.m. tonight due to potential gusts close to 50 mph. Locations above 8000 feet are expected to reach gusts up to 50 mph as well.

For the Las Vegas valley, gusts are expected to reach up to 30+ mph with the best times for said gusts between 2 and 6 p.m. this evening. By Friday, the front will have passed and cooler air will take over the city. High temperatures that were between 97 and 102 degrees Wednesday and today will drop to a range between 85 and 89 degrees!

But, it gets better!

As this occurs, low pressure that has been strengthening and growing in size off the coast of Seattle looks to drop into the southwest!

This will carry moisture, instability and cooler air from the Pacific Northwest down into the southern Nevada area. If all goes to plan, the timing of this new weather feature will hit the valley Sunday night into Monday morning.

Raw data from our colleagues at the National Weather Service here in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City are showing a potential for rain to the valley and a mix of snow and rain to the Spring Mountain Range! If this occurs, this may be the first real snow to the mountains that we have seen since the beginning of the 2015!

On top of that, high temperatures are predicted to fall to a range between 77 and 82 degrees Monday afternoon! This would mean Las Vegas would drop 20+ degrees within a 96 hour period! Talk about a roller-coaster!
