13 Action News investigated the exploitation of hundreds of seniors in Las Vegas and now that's the subject of new documentary feature film.

According to the film's director, he started this project after following our coverage and he says on the film's website,  "the film shines a light on a lucrative business that drains seniors' life-savings and robs them of their freedoms."

It's a revealing documentary that paralleled our years-long investigation, uncovering cases where our most vulnerable residents were isolated from family, some forced out of their homes. And all of it, under court approval.

The Guardians is directed by independent filmmaker Billie Mintz and he focuses on some of the same victims and families we talked to. Mintz says his film goes even deeper, into more details that "...allowed corrupt court-appointed guardians to take total control over people's health care and financial decisions."

Our reporting resulted in sweeping criminal indictments, but many say others still need to be held accountable.

The film's goal is to expose corruption and protect millions of aging and vulnerable Americans whose wealth will be transferred to the next generation. It's being screened at film festivals in the U.S. and in Canada.

You can see The Guardians right here in Las Vegas at the first ever Silver State Film Festival. The movie will be showing at 10am Sunday Sept 9.
