City officials to discuss project to help homeless

Posted

Las Vegas city officials are considering building a courtyard downtown for homeless people in need of services.

The courtyard would include bathrooms, showers, and lockers.

The proposal outlined in this week's city council agenda also includes plans to have security and staff on hand to help people with job searches, medical needs, and legal needs.

"It'll be good. It'll maybe clean the outside a little bit, maybe make a place for all that to take place because right now it's kind of spilled out into the streets," said Peter Politis who runs a non-profit organization downtown.

The city is aiming to have the first phase of the project completed by March 2018.
