LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Two middle school students were hit by a Clark County School District bus near Eastern Avenue and Oquendo Road just after 8 a.m.

Metro police say it appears that the school bus driver did not see the two 12-year-olds who were walking in the crosswalk on Eastern Avenue and Oquendo Road around 8 a.m.

The two kids were walking to Cannon Junior High School which is about a block away from where the crash happened.

Officers say the bus driver took a field sobriety test and passed.

It's not known if the driver was distracted or if the kids darted out into the crosswalk against a red light.

Investigators have not answered those questions.

Local businesses around the area admit the intersection is always busy but it has never posed any safety concerns.

Both students were taken to sunrise hospital; one is in serious condition and the other is described as having minor injuries.

The bus driver was not hurt.
