LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Clark County School District has approved a $100,000 settlement to the mother of a teen who was shot and killed at Canyon Springs High School in 2018.

18-year-old Dalvin Brown was involved in a planned fight near the baseball fields at the school when the shooting occurred, police records show.

16-year-old Kayin French was arrested in connection to Brown's death shortly after the incident. His trial is scheduled for February 3, 2020.

One of the teens involved in the fight initially denied knowing who the shooter was before changing his story, leading police to French.

Brown was preciously described by loved ones as an athlete who loved basketball and was working hard in the classroom to improve his grades.

During a candlelight ceremony after the shooting, his mother, Annie Marshall, pleaded with others not to use her son’s death as a reason to lash out with violence.

"If you are feeling rage or anger play basketball. He loved basketball. Think of him. Especially if you love him like I did. I’m going to forever miss my baby," she said.
