A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer caught on camera running a red light.

"I was like, man, I know this guy is probably going to take the light," Adrian Rendon said.

Rendon says he was on his way to work when the officer passed him on Cheyenne Avenue near Rancho Drive.

He says he caught up when the officer initially stopped at the light.

"He seemed like he was in a hurry. That is why I had my camera, phone ready," Rendon said.

The police department says officers are not supposed to go through red lights unless they have their lights going.

They say looking at the video it appears the officer violated department policies.

Those in the area were surprised the officer was so blatant.

"Man that is crazy," one man said after watching the video.

Rendon says he hesitated when a friend told him to put the video out to the public, but was moved to release it after seeing another picture of a Las Vegas police officer on his cell phone while driving.

"I said, I have to do something because this is obviously ongoing and the people of Vegas should know," Rendon said.

Las Vegas police say if they can figure out the unit number of the vehicle, the officer could face potential discipline inside the department.
