UPDATE: the victim has been identified as 38-year-old Kristopher Paul Alufaituli of Las Vegas. His cause of death is listed as blunt force head trauma by method of homicide.
ORIGINAL STORY:
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a dead body which was discovered inside the trunk of a sedan in the area of Rococo Court and Villeroy Avenue.
The call came in at 10:22 a.m.
Arriving officers located the vehicle on the street which appeared unoccupied. During the officer’s investigation, a decomposed body was found in the trunk.
"There were flies all around the trunk," said neighbor Bob Zinn. "The odor was pungent, to say the least."
Zinn called police after being alerted by other neighbors.
"There seemed to be wet blankets stuffed towards the rear of the trunk," he said.
Based on the circumstances of the death, the LVMPD Homicide Section responded. Upon further investigation, it appears the person has been deceased for some time due to the level of decomposition. This remains an ongoing investigation.
Neighbors are horrified at the discovery. They say their thoughts are with the family of the victim.
The identity of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
