Block party remembers man killed in 2010

Posted

A block party was held to remember a man killed in 2010 -- a murder that still has not been solved.

44-year-old Darren Rael was shot and killed on Oct. 22, 2010 while fixing a vehicle outside of a North Las Vegas home on Iverson Lane, near Gowan Road and Clayton Street. A homeowner had asked Rael to fix his car when a stranger approached and asked him for money. When he had none, Rael was shot.

No suspect has been arrested and police do not have any leads.

Every year since Rael's murder, a block party is held to promote safety and also keep the father's memory alive.

"To remind people that we still have someone walking the streets that murdered Darren and we want it resolved," said friend Teresa Cragon. "I'm sure the family wants it resolved as well."

Neighbors also hoping the block parties will make it less likely something like Rael's murder will happen again.

"Keeping an eye out for each other that's really what the foundation is and when things don't look right," Crago said. "Call the police and I can testify that since getting the neighborhood watch in place a lot of that has happened our neighborhood has been more connected."
