Registration for the city’s new Ignite after-school program and Safekey for the 2016-2017 school year begun Aug. 1.
Ignite, a program for teens, is launching at six middle schools this year. Safekey is a before- and after-school integrated learning program that is offered at 70 Clark County School District elementary schools within the city of Las Vegas.
There is an annual $20 registration fee per child for each program. Registration and enrollment forms can be completed at the Safekey Office located at 416 N. Seventh St., the Ignite or Safekey program at the school your child attends or at city of Las Vegas back-to-school events.
The Ignite program concentrates on science, technology, engineering and math, and focuses on critical thinking, problem solving and driving achievements. The program follows the school calendar and operates when school is in session. The program runs until 6:30 p.m., and costs $10 a day.
The Safekey program provides a safe environment where children in kindergarten through fifth grade can receive homework assistance, have a nutritious afternoon snack, and participate in physical fitness, nutrition education, arts and crafts, music and drama, reading time, games, special events and literacy programming.
Payments can be made in one of four ways once the child is registered:
· Online at www.recreation.lasvegasnevada.gov beginning Aug. 1.
· In person at the Safekey office, office hours Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
· At a city of Las Vegas community center, including Cimarron Rose, Mirabelli, Stupak, East Las Vegas, Veterans Memorial and Doolittle.
· By phone at 702-229-3399, beginning Aug. 1.
Ignite and Safekey operate as pre-paid programs where every participant must have a valid pass before they can attend. Any child without a valid pass will be sent to the school’s office for parent pick-up.
