LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Snowballs were thrown, kids flew down hills on sleds and pups ran through the thick fresh powder. Everyone wanted to take advantage of the first big snow event of the season.

People hurried to Mount Charleston to enjoy the fresh snow. Moderate to heavy snow fell throughout the day and temperatures plummeted, but that didn’t stop people from taking in the sights at Kyle Canon.

"We were very excited. We decided to come up for the day and get some lunch at the lodge. It’s a beautiful sight. We are Las Vegas locals, so any chance we get to see snow is exciting," said Las Vegas resident, Brian Layton

Since it’s been unusually dry, the employees at the Mt. Charleston Lodge were excited when the forecast called for about a foot of snow on the mountain.

"We are super excited. I always say at the bar that there is no business like snow business. We always want snow. All of the employees here know that snow equals business for us," Mt. Charleston Lodge Bartender Daniel Howard told us.

Many people decided to get ahead of the heavier snow early because the roads were already getting bad by the mid-afternoon. By then, there were already a lot of vehicles stuck coming back down the mountain.

Mount Charleston issued a chains and 4 wheel-drive advisory early in the day. Many people buckled up and headed out, wanting to experience the winter wonderland.
