UPDATE: An early morning apartment fire on Sunday left five people displaced.

Madonna Smarr, a single mom of three, was having a slumber party for her youngest daughter, Madonna Jr.

Soon after Smarr got the kids to sleep, her 12- year old daughter Miracle woke up to the smoke and flames.

"I woke up to the smoke and ran screaming to my mom, and we got everyone outside," Miracle said.

"We might not have a place to stay or [any]more materialistic things, [but] these babies are alive," Smarr said. "I don't know what I would have done if I lost one."

This holiday season the family may have lost almost everything, but they still have each other.  An invaluable gift no fire can destroy.

ORIGINAL STORY

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- A fire caused $15,000 in damages to an apartment at 2113 Sunrise Avenue on Sunday.

Las Vegas firefighters responded to the scene around 4 a.m. Upon arrival, crews spotted flames and smoke coming from the window of a downstairs apartment in a 2-story building. The fire was out in eight minutes.

The cause of the fire is undetermined. An investigation indicated that a little girl was sleeping in a bedroom when she awoke and spotted a small fire in the room. She left the room and told her mother, and both escaped along with the rest of the occupants.

The American Red Cross is assisting two adults and three children displaced by the fire.

No injuries were reported.
