LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Two dogs are dead and four people are without a home after a house fire in northwest Las Vegas.

This happened near Vegas and Durango drives shortly after 2 p.m.

Firefighters say no people were at home when the fire occurred but four dogs were.

Two of the dogs died in the fire, the other two escaped.

A neighbor tried to rescue the two trapped dogs, firefighters say.

He was driven back due to the intense heat and injured his hand while trying to crawl over a block wall to escape. The neighbor was treated on the scene.

The occupants, two adults and two teens, arrived home later in the evening.

They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
