UPDATE AUG. 24: The Clark County Coroner has identified the two victims as 21-year-old Dorel Avila and 23-year-old Richard Jimenez, both from Las Vegas. Both died as a result of multiple blunt force trauma and the incident was ruled an accident.

ORIGINAL STORY:
The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that killed two people and injured three others near Mount Charleston on Saturday.

Troopers were called to a scene on State Route 157 (Kyle Canyon Road) and Echo Road at about 5:40 a.m.

A black Nissan Altima with five occupants, not wearing seat belts, was traveling westbound on Kyle Canyon Road approaching Echo Road, according to the NHP.

For reasons unknown, that vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and continued straight. The front of the Nissan then struck a guardrail and rotated down an embankment, before striking a large tree stump and overturning.

Authorities say one of the passengers was ejected and he died along with the woman behind the wheel. The other three occupants in the vehicle were transported to UMC Trauma with two air-lifted.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the NHP, and impairment was not immediately suspected.

Echo Road was closed due to the incident.
