A motorcyclist is dead after striking a highway post on the Interstate Route 215 approaching the Jones Boulevard off-ramp early Friday morning.

Nevada Highway Patrol says the 28-year-old male, who was ejected from his cycle as a result of the collision, was subsequently transported to UMC Trauma by ambulance where he succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash.

Investigators at NHP believe speed was a factor. Witnesses to the collision corroborate this claim, describing the cyclist's driving as reckless.

The man was identified as Oriens Dejesus of Las Vegas. He died of multiple blunt force injuries due to the crash.

This marks the southern command's 41st fatal crash, resulting in 46 fatalities this year.
