LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Two weeks out from the 2022 Midterm Election, candidates are finalizing their pitches to Nevada's voters.
Some voters might feel they still need a little more information to make a decision.
The first question you might have: What is a lieutenant governor, and what do they do?
At the most basic level, they're kind of like a vice-governor. If the governor can't perform their duties for some reason, the lieutenant governor would step in. The lieutenant governor also serves as the president of the State Senate.
KTNV anchor Justin Hinton interviewed both candidates for lieutenant governor to give them the opportunity to explain who they are, what issues they plan to tackle, and why voters should choose them over their opponent.
Lisa Cano Burkhead, the Democratic incumbent, was appointed by Gov. Steve Sisolak in December of 2021. She spent the majority of her professional career as an educator. Born and raised in Las Vegas, she's a first-generation Latina American, and is the first Latina to hold the office of lieutenant governor in Nevada.
Stavros Anthony, her Republican challenger, is a 29-year veteran of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He's currently in his third term on the Las Vegas City Council, representing Ward 4.
Each interview is broken up by question or topic, so voters can easily find the candidate's response on specific issues. Here are their pitches to voters:
