LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Americans owe more than $1.53 trillion in student loan debt.
Research shows that 1 in 4 Americans have student loan debt, that is nearly 45 million people.

For most students college is not option simply because they can't afford it, but UNLV student Sebastian Cardenes understood that opportunities in life start with education and going to college was a priority.
Cardenes' high GPA in high school earned him several scholarships to attend UNLV.

However, most students don't finish first in their class and the struggle to pay for college can be overwhelming.

The Public Education Foundation says there is money available but you have to look for it.
Las Vegas has a lot of resources for scholarships, including the Savings program at the Nevada State Treasurer's office.
