The first arriving engine crew observed smoke and fire coming from a second-floor unit in a two-story apartment building. Firefighters initiated a defensive attack from the exterior of the structure and then entered the apartment to extinguish the fire.
The fire was confined to the apartment of origin and did not extend to other apartments in the 12-unit building.
A resident was home and discovered the fire on his porch. He called 911 and safely exited the residence.
One neighbor said the entire porch was on fire.
"Just blew up in a heavy heavy blaze," Floyd Tarr said. "I've never seen a fire go up that quick. It was really nasty."
There were no injuries to occupants or fire personnel.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The total damage estimate has not been determined.
