One cat died and another two were revived after an apartment fire Wednesday night.
A woman was also treated on scene for smoke inhalation in the fire in the 1800 block of North Decatur Boulevard, near Lake Mead Boulevard. The fire, which started around 8:45 p.m., was in a downstairs unit. It was extinguished within 10 minutes.
The woman was home at the time of the fire. She told fire investigators she was watching TV next to the patio and heard a loud pop on the patio. She then noticed heavy flames on the patio. At that time neighbors started yelling for her to get out as several neighbors used fire extinguishers in an attempt to put the fire out.
As the woman was leaving the apartment, the sliding glass door to the patio cracked and broke. Flames and heavy smoke quickly filled the apartment as she was escaping.
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue firefighters revived two cats using a pet oxygen mask while another cat left the area.
The fire gutted the great room of the apartment (dining/living room area) and there was very heavy smoke damage throughout the rest of the unit.
There is $35,000 in damage. Firefighters are investigating the cause.
2 people -- the woman and her son -- were displaced as a result of the fire.
