LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Buying a mattress isn't cheap. It can take a lot of shopping around to find the right price.

One las Vegas valley couple found what they thought was a great deal. But as 13 Consumer Advocate Tricia Kean reports, they learned the hard way, sometimes you get what you pay for.

"It's just wrong," says Brandi Sandoval.

"These are not people who care about their customers," says Brandi's husband, Josh.

The Sandovals aren't happy. It all started after recently finding a deal online for a king size mattress.

"They were asking for $160," says Josh.

The business is called Sleep Like a Dream Mattress. Josh says he was told their used mattresses are sterilized and clean. But he still wanted to see pictures of exactly what he was getting.

"So I gave them my phone number. They sent me two or three more pictures of different mattresses. They're all set up on bed frames. It looks legit," says Josh.

But Josh says it didn't look so legit when they pulled up to his house in an unmarked pickup truck.

"They just had it in the back of the bed. No markings. No company logo on it... It was like somebody's personal vehicle," says Josh.

Josh says he paid the delivery guys in cash and they handed him this receipt.

"I asked them to drop it off. They just drug it in the room and were gone before I could even open the bag," says Josh.

Here's what Josh found once he took the plastic off. A yellow, stained, smelly mattress. Using a black light, you can see even more stains.

"I immediately text them and let them know hey, this mattress smells moldy. This is not acceptable," says Josh.

Josh says he called several times, but never got anywhere. That's when he reached out to 13 Action News.

"Even if I could get rid of the smell after seeing all the stains on it, I couldn't do it, can't get near that mattress," says Josh.

We paid a visit to Sleep Like a Dream Mattress near Flamingo Road and Arville Street. No one in charge was available to speak with us. But an employee took our information and said the owner would be looking into it.

"There's protocol when it comes to selling used mattresses," says Rhonda Mettler with the Better Business Bureau.

The BBB points out, by law a used mattress must be properly disinfected and labeled as sterilized.

Once you've found a business you like: Do your homework.

"Check them out first. Before you make your purchase, before you hit that submit my payment, let your fingers do the walking," says Mettler.

A quick online search shows similar complaints; with Sleep Like a Dream Mattress earning a C rating with the BBB and only two-and-a-half stars on Yelp.

As for Josh and Brandi, they say they're still hoping to resolve their complaint.

"They can have that crappy mattress that they dropped off. Give me my $160. I'd be happy with that," says Josh.

13 Action News will stay in touch with Sleep Like a Dream Mattress, and we'll let you know if they're able to come to an agreement with Josh and Brandi.
