29-year-old North Carolina lawyer dies from flu complications

A 29-year-old lawyer from North Carolina is dead after she had a heart attack following complications from the flu. 

Scarlett Levinson's family and friends say they are in shock.

Children and the elderly are at the most risk but the flu can be dangerous for almost anyone.

Last year, it is estimated that approximately 80,000 people died as a result of the flu. That included 180 children. It was the highest number of deaths in nearly 40 years.

Tips for avoiding the flu include:

  • Washing your hands
  • Taking care of yourself including getting enough sleep and exercising
  • Get a flu shot
