LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Juneteenth is an American holiday celebrated annually on June 19, also known as Freedom Day and Jubilee Day.
The holiday celebrates June 19, 1865, the day that Union General Gordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, Texas, that all previously enslaved people in Texas were free.
Here are a few celebrations being held this year in Las Vegas:
- Juneteenth Celebration
Celebration in observance of Juneteenth at Craig Ranch Park on June 19 at 5 p.m. featuring live performances, fashion showcase and more. Face masks will be required to attend the event.
- Juneteenth Community Collaboration Event
The community comes together to celebrate the observance of Juneteenth at Lorenzi Park from 2 to 7 p.m. on June 19.
- Iconic and JMO Radio Show presents Juneteenth Community Celebration
Free family event on June 20 at Tropical Breeze Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Food provided by Whole Hogs.
- Classic Jewel Juneteenth Celebration
Food trucks, music, drinks and more on June 19 from 4 p.m. to close at 353 East Bonneville Avenue.
- Juneteenth Rally & March for Justice
The Juneteenth Rally & March for Justice will happen between 4 and 10 p.m. The starting point is at 953 E. Sahara Ave. Hosted by Black Lives Matter Las Vegas.
- Juneteenth Freedom Function
Food, good vibes, music and more on June 19 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Cork and Thorn located at 70 Imperial Avenue.
