Born in Southern California but raised in Northern Nevada from a young age, Abel Garcia proudly calls the Silver State home.
His journalism journey began in Reno at KOLO 8 News Now, starting as a news editor and advancing to Multimedia Journalist/Reporter over four years. He covered a range of impactful stories, from the Argenta Hall explosion at the University of Nevada, Reno, to local riots following peaceful Black Lives Matter protests, and the profound effects of the coronavirus pandemic and wildfires in Northern Nevada.
In January 2023, Abel moved to Southern Nevada to join Channel 13 in Las Vegas as a Multimedia Journalist/Reporter, quickly earning a promotion to evening anchor/reporter. He is dedicated to engaging with the Las Vegas community and amplifying the voices of underrepresented groups, driven by his personal connection to issues of racial justice.
Abel has reported on significant events including the tragic UNLV shooting in December 2023, where three professors lost their lives in a devastating act of violence. He also covered the Formula One race in Las Vegas in November 2023 and the city's first Super Bowl in February 2024.
Abel has dedicated his focus to uncovering healthcare issues in Southern Nevada and providing our viewers with essential information about our healthcare system.
