Many people wondering what is open for Memorial Day weekend

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Usually this time of year, we're planning our memorial day weekend trips to unofficially kick off the start of summer. But because of coronavirus, this year is going to look drastically different.

Many people are planning on spending the holiday weekend in town but what's open?

Lake Mead is open to visitors wanting to spend the holiday outdoors. Houseboats, powerboats, and other watercraft rentals are available again at Lake Mead and Lake Mohave on Memorial Day weekend.

Golf courses plus tennis and pickleball courts are also open and people can visit trails and outdoor facilities.

The City of Las Vegas has also opened an outdoor areato encourage people to dine out again. Streets are closed to allow visitors to eat their takeout food while staying 6 feet apart. The pavilions will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.

For those who want to watch, fireworks, the 18th annual Southern Highlands Community Fireworks Showis still on schedule for Memorial Day, May 25th at 8:15 P.M. Pivoting this year to a socially distant format, the fireworks will originate and be displayed high from the hilltop at Olympia Sports Park.

While the park will be closed to the public, the height of the fireworks has been increased this year for families and residents in the Southern Highlands area to see and enjoy while at home.
